This picture, and the slide below, demonstrate The EcoSystem of Success© model that I've developed. The EcoSystem of Success© forms the framework for my "Purpose to Prosperity" program. This program consists of three training modules built around the 3 main areas--the pyramid "tree" (the strategic "success plan"), the leadership pieces (Purpose, Values and "CASTLE" Leadership Qualities), and the "roots" (the environments affecting our capacity for being fully expressed and high performing). Contact me to find out more, and to see how you and your organization can benefit from this 3-module program.

Ecosystems of Success

To understand the whole, I'll break it into pieces.
A. First, top center—the strategic business plan, shown as a pyramid, or "tree".
Most organizations focus on the pyramid--the strategic business planning elements that need to be addressed and focused on in order to ascend to the top, which is the vision...but I go further and have my clients define success--for themselves, their family, and their legacy--above vision.  I then use the vision as part of the strategic vehicle to reach what is the deeper, meaningful definition of "success".
So the pyramid is the starting point, because it's the classical strategic focus of any organization or business—or individual performer.

(To further understand the parts of the pyramid/tree, contact me, or see section 1 in my forthcoming books Success Stew or The EcoSystem of Success©.

B. Center: Purpose, the support structure, shown as the tree trunk.  In order to get and keep everyone inspired and engaged, there needs to be, running through it all, a deeper purpose, and that needs to be defined by an inspired and inspiring leader...someone that people want to be part of.  Or, it can be defined by you, as a “leader of self”.  It's that purpose that keeps everything and everyone grounded in deeper meaning.  Purpose is like the life-giving fluid that runs through our spinal column, feeding and affecting everything.  It’s our “cord blood”.  It also defines, feeds and develops the culture—and culture is THE most important factor for success.  As Peter Drucker said, “Culture eats strategy for breakfast.”  The type of leader that can deeply define and express this throughout an organization is a “Higher Ground Leader™”.

(To further understand the components of Purpose, including Character and Calling, contact me, or see section 2 in my forthcoming books Success Stew or The EcoSystem of Success<©>.  Also, see Dr. Lance Secretan’s work as cited in the bibliography, and below.)

C.  Underneath the surface are the “roots”-- all the complexities of the human beings--what is called the "Nine Environments of You©".  These are areas that can feed or poison the effectiveness of the individual performers.  E.g.: if someone is in poisonous relationships, they're going to be drained by those, rather than fed, and that person's effectiveness in life AND work will be negatively affected.  However, these "roots" can apply to the organization as well, not just the individuals within it.  E.g.:  if the company isn't addressing its financials, or the thoughts/belief systems are negative (memes) it would negatively impact the company.  It's the same with individual people.  The "roots" are shown as two way arrows, showing that these things can either feed or bleed the purpose and the success of the organization—OR of the person.  The nine areas that form the “roots” are shown in the slide below-- the “Nine Environments of You”

(To further understand the roots, see Section 3, the “Nine Environments of You” (copyright 2004, Coachville). in my forthcoming book, The EcoSystem of Success© or in Success Stew.)

D.  The elements on the left side are the "sunshine", the values that make up "Values-Centered Leadership™", again a Lance Secretan model.  I think it's wonderful how he's brought everything down to 3 values:

  • Mastery--"Undertaking whatever you do to the highest standards of which you are capable"
  • Chemistry--"Relating so well with others that they actively associate to associate themselves with you."
  • Delivery--"Identifying the needs of others and meeting them".

When you think of it, there are no other values, really.  I have a "vector", developed by Dr. Lance Secretan, that uses just these 3 values as a way to evaluate the organization's or an individual's performance.  The vector can actually predict future performance.  It's really wonderful.

E.  On the right is the "rain"--the elements of inspired leadership that nourish the core of the business, as well as the human elements (the roots).  These are known as the "CASTLE Principles™", and are part of Higher Ground Leadership™, developed by Dr. Lance Secretan.  CASTLE is an acronym for: Courage, Authenticity, Service, Truthfulness, Love (i.e., truly caring about others), and Effectiveness, and are the principles that an inspiring leader needs to demonstrate and, more importantly, live by.  This is shown as rain, because it impacts not only the upper sections of the whole-- all levels of the pyramid, and the sunshine—but also permeates and infuses the roots.  If leadership is missing or is ineffective, all areas shrink or die.  It’s that important.

On a very simplistic level, those are the different elements making up The EcoSystem of Success©.  When we do the necessary work to build, align, beef up, and clean up all of these areas, we will fully move into our purpose-- living and working with more passion, and experiencing more prosperity in ALL areas of our lives.

The Nine Environments of You

Description of slide 2: The sectors of the outside ring are the areas that are farthest from who we fundamentally are—either as an organization or an individual—yet they can powerfully impact the deeper environments--either bleeding them or feeding them—as well as our essential core called YOU, which is filled by our Purpose.  These 6 outermost environments are the areas to which we most often pay attention and by which we tend to define ourselves.  So we need to pay prodigious attention to them, keeping them healthy and serving us well, otherwise we will not bloom to our full potential.   However, none of these are who we really are, at our deepest levels…but they will feed or bleed us deeply.  Let’s look at each of these individually.

Memetic is comprised of the knowledge, thoughts and beliefs that we carry, all of which are products of the outside world—parents, co-workers, events, educational institutions, the media, etc.
Relationships are just that—parents, spouses, co-workers, bosses, and other significant people in our life, or in the organization’s life.  It could be the board of directors.
Nature is the natural world.  It’s what we came from and are interconnected with.  It’s essential that we have it in our life and spend time with it in order to feel spiritually fed and balanced.  It’s almost part of our DNA, and one of the reason that works areas with windows, sunshine, trees and plants make everyone feel better.  It’s essential.
Physical includes the surroundings in which we live and work, including our physical bodies.  If these are unhealthy or uninspiring or have a lot of things that need to be “fixed” or attended to, we’re being distracted or pulled off course.  It’s essential that our physical environments, including our bodies, are healthy, and inspiring.
Financial is, of course, about money—our relationship with money, the financial health of our enterprise.
Network is the groups and individuals to which we are peripherally connected.  If we have the 6-degrees connection with the people and organizations that can ideally serve our needs, we will move forward.  If not, we won’t. It’s as simple as that.
Moving into the second ring, we get a little closer to the core of Purpose.
Intangibles are habits, intuitions and gifts.
Self is your personality, your DNA.
Spiritual is our relationship with the Divine, with Source, with the universe—however you define and experience that deep, deep connection to your existence.  It’s often through our painful experiences, reframed and re-defined via our connection to the spiritual, that we find our Purpose…that you find your YOU.  Once you deeply define and feel your YOU, your Purpose, you will live with more passion, and experience more prosperity in all areas of you life.
